Covertone tracks the partials of whatever you feed it and splits the sound into three layers you can reshape independently — a tonal resynthesis, a noise residue, and a ringing resonance. Glide, shimmer, spread and gender move the partials; the ShifterMate staircase drives them in musical steps.

What it is

Three layers from one signal

Covertone analyses the incoming signal into a bank of tracked partials and resynthesises them, keeping the tonal body, the noise residue and a ringing resonance as three separate layers you mix against the dry sound.

Because the partials are tracked rather than filtered, you can reshape them directly — transpose and stretch the harmonic series, glide and shimmer between frames, spread them in stereo, shift the formants with GENDER, and drive the whole set in musical steps with the built-in ShifterMate staircase.

Tonal

Noise + Resonance
The residue kept separate as a noise layer, plus a RESONATE / DIFFUSE ringing tail. Balance all three against the dry signal.
ShifterMate

Drive the partials in musical steps

A tiny routing switch under every reshaping knob sends it to the ShifterMate staircase — a shared, tempo-aware step engine. Route TRANSPOSE, STRETCH, GLIDE, SHIMMER, SPREAD or RESONATE to it and the staircase walks that parameter through musical intervals, so movement stays in key and in time instead of drifting freely.

Reshape every layer

PARTIALS
How many tracked partials the resynthesis uses — from sparse and pure to full and rich.
TRANSPOSE
Shifts the whole tracked series up or down in semitones.
STRETCH
Stretches or compresses the spacing of the partials — harmonic ↔ inharmonic.
GLIDE
Smooths partial motion between analysis frames for legato slides.
SHIMMER
Adds upper-partial sparkle and movement to the tonal layer.
SPREAD
Spreads the partials across the stereo field for width.
GENDER
Shifts the formants up or down independently of pitch — voice character.
NOISE
Level of the separated noise residue against the tonal layer.
RESONATE
A ringing resonant tail (with DIFFUSE) applied to the tracked partials.
